Any particular 'open mic night' might be horrendous. The sum of all 'open mic nights' will produce something good.

Or rather, the weeding-out process of all the open mic nights. The good part about the internet vs. clubs (having had experience with both) is that the gatekeeping is more democratic. So far.

The garden metaphor is a good one. But the goal isn't to find more weeds for removal, it's to find the flowers sooner. I suppose the difference between the Network and Clubs is live vs. recorded music. Are you aware of any live music venues on the internet?
